Balcony Bikes R100
By Ross Sharp - 31 Jan 18
A lack of workshop space and a newborn baby shouldn't curtail dreams and ambition. Five years ago George Paleologos from Greece needed to stay home to look after his daughter but couldn't quash his bike building passion... so he slid open the door of his apartment and started customising small capacity Honda Dax and Z 50s on his balcony.
However, for this 1977 BMW R100 project George borrowed some space from a couple of petrolhead brothers who own a car bodyshop and dirt bike store nearby. The fully faired donor was bought by a friend from the island of Syros who commissioned Balcony Bikes to build a tool for the winding mountain roads and dirt trails around his home.
The subframe and rear fender are by Honor MC from Spain and the rear light is from Prism Supply Co. A now ubiquitous Motogadget Motoscope Tiny speedo is powered by an Oddessy battery and the teutonic switchgear remains standard. Shocks are by Öhlins and the brake hoses came from UK based specialists Venhill. The exhaust though is home-grown, fabricated in-house from stainless.
Sure, we've featured far more extreme R-series builds before, as have all the other blogs and websites but we liked George's story of humble beginnings and perseverance so thought this tidy R100 was worth a share.

And if you lucky enough to live on or visit Syros and see this black beauty ripping along the lanes or paths, give the rider a wave from us.
