Dakar at the Bike Shed
By Ross Sharp - 08 Jan 19
Finally! Stew and I have been banging on for ages about having a proper Dakar presence here at the Bike Shed during the rally itself. It seems 2019 is our lucky year. Dakar legend Simon Pavey and his son, and co-founder Brake Magazine, Llewelyn Pavey joined Brake's other founder Neil Hawker and BMW Off-Road Skills general manager Si Hewitt for a chat about this year's race, and their planned assault on the Dakar in 2020.
The duo brought along Simon's BMW GS650 from the 2005 rally and Llewelyn's more recent 2015 KTM. Trying both for size it seemed like there was way more than a decade between the two machines.
Our pal Charley Boorman was trained by Si Pavey and rode in the 2006 race, and popped in for the evening to catch up with old mates.
There's a video at the bottom of the page but if you'd like to try our new podcast feature click the link below and tune-in on your ride or drive home. The full YouTube vid is at the bottom too. Enjoy!
